What Exactly is R-Value?

R-Value is a measure of thermal resistance.

Think of it like the "warmth rating" of a winter jacket. The "R" stands for Resistance-specifically, how well a material resists the flow of heat.1

  • In the Winter: Heat wants to escape your warm rooms to the cold outdoors.

  • In the Summer: Heat wants to push its way into your cool, air-conditioned home.

The higher the R-Value, the better the material is at stopping that heat movement.

The Simple Math: How it Works

The math of insulation isn't about complex calculus; it is about multiplication.

Total R Value = R value per inch x times Thickness (inches)

The Honeyfoam Factor: Our closed-cell spray foam products feature an impressive R-Value of 6.2 per inch.

To put that into perspective:

  • Spraying a 2-inch layer of Honeyfoam achieves an R-12.4 rating.
  • A 3-inch layer brings you up to R-18.6.

The "Air Leak" Factor

Standard fiberglass batts might claim a certain R-Value, but there is a catch: they don't stop air. If wind can blow through your insulation (like a wool sweater), the effective R-Value drops significantly.

Because Honeyfoam is a 2-component polyurethane foam, it expands to create an airtight seal. It doesn't just provide thermal resistance; it stops the drafts that "cheat" the math of traditional insulation.

Why 2-Component Foam Wins the Math Game

While 1-component cans are fine for tiny cracks, a 2-component Honeyfoam Kit is the professional choice for two reasons:

  • High Density: With a rating of 6.2 per inch, our closed-cell foam provides more insulation in less space than almost any other material.
  • Structural Integrity: Our foam is designed to stay put. It won't sag or settle over time like blown-in cellulose or fiberglass, meaning your R-Value stays the same on Day 1,000 as it was on Day 1.
